Bulgarians Join EU Citizens’ Crisis Preparedness Online Debate

One hundred fifty citizens from various European Union member states are participating in the second session of the European Citizens’ Panel on Preparedness, held online from April 24 to 26. This gathering aims to develop concrete strategies to enhance the ability of EU citizens to respond to future crises and shocks. The discussions are designed to ensure that the actions undertaken under the EU preparedness union strategy are inclusive and directly address the needs of the populace.

Participants are deepening their examination of key priorities previously identified in earlier discussions. These critical areas of focus include robust citizen engagement, comprehensive education, fostering solidarity and inclusion, maintaining the integrity of communication—specifically combating disinformation—and refining overall crisis management protocols across Europe. Among the attendees are four representatives from Bulgaria, hailing from Sofia, Burgas, Isperih, and Reberkovo.

Antoaneta Petkova, representing Reberkovo, expressed hope that the group, which includes delegates from Germany, Italy, and the Czech Republic, will continue discussing proposals such as the implementation of theoretical and practical educational training on crisis response for all age groups. She noted that several other concepts related to disaster and crisis response will also be debated. The assembly underscores the importance of citizen input in shaping policy.

By bringing together diverse voices, the panel seeks to build a cohesive and resilient framework for the entire EU. The plenary session proceedings are available for live viewing on the panel’s dedicated website.
