Iotova to Hold Consultations with Parliamentary Groups Tuesday

President Iliana Iotova is scheduled to conduct a series of consultations with the six parliamentary groups on May 5, according to the President’s press secretariat on Monday. The constitutional procedure dictates that following these consultations, the President will appoint the Prime Minister-designate, who will be nominated by the largest parliamentary group, to form a government. The schedule of meetings begins with the Progressive Bulgaria group, which holds the largest representation with 131 seats in the 240-seat Parliament.

Subsequently, Iotova will meet with the representatives from GERB-UDF, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, Democratic Bulgaria, Continue the Change, and Vazrazhdane. Following the conclusion of these consultations, President Iotova is expected to issue a statement to the media. The Members of Parliament were sworn in on April 30, an event during which Progressive Bulgaria’s MP, Mihaela Dotsova, was elected as the National Assembly Chair.

The outlined schedule represents a key step in the process of governmental formation following the recent parliamentary sessions.
