Iotova to Hold Consultations with Parliamentary Groups Tuesday

President Iliana Iotova is scheduled to conduct a series of consultations with the nation’s six parliamentary groups on May 5, according to the President’s press secretariat on Monday. These meetings are a constitutional requirement preceding the formation of a new government. Following these consultations, the President is tasked with appointing the Prime Minister-designate, a role assigned to the individual proposed by the largest parliamentary faction.

The consultation schedule begins with Progressive Bulgaria, which holds 131 seats within the 240-seat Parliament. Following this, President Iotova will meet sequentially with representatives from GERB-UDF, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, Democratic Bulgaria, Continue the Change, and Vazrazhdane. Upon the conclusion of the discussions, Iotova is expected to issue a formal statement to the media detailing the proceedings.

These consultations represent a critical procedural step in the establishment of the government. The parliamentary process commenced following the swearing-in of Members of Parliament on April 30, an occasion during which Progressive Bulgaria elected Mihaela Dotsova to serve as the Chair of the National Assembly. The scheduled consultations aim to consolidate the political framework necessary for the government’s formation, guiding the path for the next administration.
