Bostandjiev Becomes New PFC Levski Sofia Owner

Bulgarian businessman Atanas Bostandjiev has acquired ownership of PFC Levski Sofia, succeeding the outgoing majority shareholder, Nasko Sirakov, as announced on Friday. While Bostandjiev assumes ownership, Sirakov will retain the role of club president, stepping down from his shareholder position after stabilizing the club during a challenging period and preserving its identity. Sirakov emphasized that maintaining leadership continuity is crucial for Levski’s future.

Bostandjiev stated his commitment to preserving the identity and independence of the club while achieving sustainable success in both on-field performance and operational management. He expressed satisfaction that Sirakov will remain in the presidency. A key component of Levski’s future strategy is the planned new Georgi Asparuhov Stadium.

Levski and the architectural and engineering firm IPA have unveiled the concept, which carries an estimated total investment of EUR 120 million. The facility is designed to accommodate 24,718 spectators according to Bulgarian Football Union requirements, and 23,032 under UEFA standards. Construction is anticipated to commence in the spring of 2027.

The stadium is envisioned as a multifunctional complex, capable of hosting major events, including concerts for up to 40,000 people, alongside enhanced park areas and public spaces. Atanas Bostandjiev is the founder and CEO of Gemcorp Capital, established in 2014, which specializes in emerging markets. His prior professional experience includes serving as CEO of VTB Capital in the UK and as a partner at Goldman Sachs in London, where he co-headed the emerging markets business across Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
