Alley of Freedom in Historic Oborishte Area Is Unveiled

The renovated Alley of Freedom in Panagyurishte was officially unveiled on Saturday, commemorating the 150th anniversary of the April Uprising. The thoroughfare spans seven kilometers, connecting the town’s outskirts to the historic Oborishte area, where the Apriltsi Monument is located. The rebuilding initiative was funded by donations exceeding EUR 2 million from Asarel-Medet AD.

The opening ceremony was attended by various dignitaries, including members of parliament, Mayor Zhelyazko Gagov, Municipal Council Chairman Ivan Lalov, Pazardzhik Regional Governor Lyubomir Gechev, and representatives from Asarel-Medet AD. Originally established in 1976, the alley serves as a conduit between Panagyurishte and the historic Oborishte. Its path transitions from an asphalt section at the town’s edge, through a forest eco-trail, and into a commemorative route leading to the monument honoring the First Bulgarian Grand National Assembly.

Mayor Gagov emphasized the significance of the location, stating, “This place is sacred… Respect for their memory brings us together.” During the event, Gagov presented a commemorative plaque to Dimitar Tsotsorkov, representing Asarel-Medet AD. Asarel-Medet AD’s Executive Director, Nikolay Peltekov, noted the company’s commitment, stating that the project was a duty to the present generation in honor of the Uprising’s 150th anniversary.

He highlighted the ongoing corporate tradition of contributing to the development of Panagyurishte and Bulgaria, ensuring the historical spirit and patriotism are preserved for future generations along this important alley.
