Bulgarian President Iliana Iotova visited Yerevan on Sunday, meeting with Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan ahead of her participation in the European Political Community Summit. In discussions with President Khachaturyan, the two leaders focused on strengthening bilateral ties. President Iotova emphasized the role of the European Political Community in boosting European connectivity, noting the format provides renewed energy to regional cooperation.
Khachaturyan acknowledged Bulgaria’s success in European integration and offered its experience to support Armenia. Discussions covered expanding cooperation across energy, economy, culture, tourism, and artificial intelligence. Later, President Iotova met with Prime Minister Pashinyan, resulting in the signing of a Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership.
The leaders highlighted the strong political dialogue and significant untapped potential for bilateral development, particularly in security and energy. Prime Minister Pashinyan expressed gratitude for Bulgaria’s support to the Armenian community. President Iotova reaffirmed Bulgaria’s commitment, leveraging its 19 years of EU membership to assist Armenia’s integration path.
During her visit, President Iotova also toured the 131st Peyo Yavorov Primary School in Yerevan. She addressed students, referencing Yavorov’s literary work, and praised the preservation of Bulgarian culture. Furthermore, she announced plans to open a sixth Armenian school in Bulgaria.
At the upcoming EPC Summit, President Iotova is scheduled to discuss transport and energy connectivity, alongside meeting with Greek President Konstantinos Tasoulas.
