Bostandjiev Becomes New PFC Levski Sofia Owner

Bulgarian businessman Atanas Bostandjiev has acquired majority ownership of PFC Levski Sofia, as announced by the club’s outgoing shareholder, Nasko Sirakov, on Friday. While Bostandjiev takes control of the shares, Sirakov will retain the role of club president. Sirakov stated his decision to divest shares followed a period of stabilization, ensuring the club’s survival and preserving its core identity, emphasizing the need for consistent leadership for Levski’s future.

Bostandjiev stated his commitment to maintaining Levski’s identity and independence while aiming for sustained success both athletically and operationally. He expressed satisfaction that Sirakov will continue in his role as president. A cornerstone of the club’s future strategy involves the new Georgi Asparuhov Stadium project.

Levski and the architectural and engineering firm IPA have unveiled the concept, which requires an estimated total investment of EUR 120 million. The facility is designed to accommodate 24,718 seats according to Bulgarian Football Union standards and 23,032 under UEFA regulations. Construction is projected to commence in spring 2027.

Beyond its function as a sporting venue, the stadium will operate as a multifunctional complex, capable of hosting events such as concerts for up to 40,000 people, complemented by enhanced park areas and public spaces. Atanas Bostandjiev is the founder and CEO of Gemcorp Capital, a firm established in 2014 that specializes in emerging markets. His professional background includes roles as CEO of VTB Capital in the UK and a partner at Goldman Sachs in London, where he co-headed the emerging markets business across several regions.
