Bostandjiev Becomes New PFC Levski Sofia Owner

Bulgarian businessman Atanas Bostandjiev has assumed ownership of PFC Levski Sofia, succeeding the club’s outgoing majority shareholder, Nasko Sirakov, as announced on Friday. While Bostandjiev takes over the shareholding, Sirakov will retain the role of club president. Sirakov stated his decision to step down from shareholding was made after stabilizing the club during a challenging period, thereby ensuring its continued existence and preserving its core identity.

He emphasized that maintaining continuity in leadership is crucial for the future trajectory of the Levski club. Bostandjiev expressed his commitment to safeguarding the Levski identity and independence while aiming for sustained success both on the pitch and in the club’s operational aspects. He welcomed Sirakov’s continued role as president.

A key component of the Levski future plan involves the development of a new Georgi Asparuhov Stadium. Levski and the architectural and engineering firm IPA revealed the concept, projecting a total investment of EUR 120 million. The stadium is designed to accommodate 24,718 seats according to Bulgarian Football Union requirements and 23,032 under UEFA standards.

Construction is scheduled to commence in spring 2027. Beyond its sporting function, the facility is planned as a multifunctional complex, capable of hosting events such as concerts for up to 40,000 people, complemented by enhanced park areas and public spaces. Atanas Bostandjiev is the founder and CEO of Gemcorp Capital, established in 2014, which specializes in emerging markets.

His professional background includes roles as CEO of VTB Capital in the UK and a partner at Goldman Sachs in London, where he co-headed the emerging markets business across Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
