Bulgarian businessman Atanas Bostandjiev has acquired ownership of PFC Levski Sofia, succeeding the outgoing majority shareholder, Nasko Sirakov, according to an announcement made on Friday. While Bostandjiev assumes the role of owner, Sirakov will retain the position of club president but will relinquish his shareholding. Sirakov stated his departure from shareholding followed a period of stabilizing the club, emphasizing that this action secures Levski’s survival and preserves its core identity, while advocating for continued leadership continuity for the club’s future.
Bostandjiev stated his objective is to ensure Levski maintains its identity and independence while achieving sustainable success both on the pitch and in its operational aspects, expressing satisfaction that Sirakov will continue as president. A cornerstone of Levski’s planned future development is the new Georgi Asparuhov Stadium project. Levski and the architectural firm IPA have unveiled the concept, with an estimated total investment of EUR 120 million.
The stadium is designed to accommodate 24,718 spectators under Bulgarian Football Union regulations and 23,032 under UEFA standards. Construction is slated to commence in spring 2027. Beyond its sporting function, the facility will operate as a multifunctional complex, capable of hosting large events, including concerts for up to 40,000 people, alongside enhanced public park areas.
Atanas Bostandjiev is the founder and CEO of Gemcorp Capital, established in 2014, which specializes in emerging markets. His prior professional experience includes serving as CEO of VTB Capital in the UK and as a partner at Goldman Sachs in London, where he co-headed the emerging markets business for Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
