The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) announced the launch of a National Jazz Press Club and formalized a partnership agreement with the Milcho Leviev Association for Culture and Education on April 29. The event took place at the In The Mood Jazz Club in Sofia, coinciding with International Jazz Day. The celebration featured local artists, including Vicky Almazidou, Antoni Donchev, and Vasil Hadjigrudev.
This new venture marks BTA’s 46th press club and its third mobile iteration, following previous successful installations at book fairs and aboard a naval research vessel. BTA Director General Kiril Valchev stated that the national news agency has consistently supported various festivals in Bulgaria, particularly those related to jazz, by promoting them both nationally and internationally through its English-language service. Valchev noted that BTA has enhanced its festival coverage to include daily, in-depth reporting, complete with artist profiles and full concert documentation.
He emphasized that supporting cultural events by naming organizers and supporters constitutes a form of cultural support rather than advertising. In related news, the Milcho Leviev Association announced the 3rd Milcho Leviev National Music Competition, scheduled from June 29 to July 3. This competition, supported by the Municipality of Plovdiv and the Dobrin Petkov National School of Music and Dance Arts, is dedicated to pianists aged 10 to 25.
Highlighting the enduring connection between the arts and BTA, Valchev pointed out that the agency has historically covered the work of composer Milcho Lev
