The 52nd National Assembly of Bulgaria is scheduled to convene for its inaugural sitting on April 30, following a decree signed by President Iliana Iotova on April 28, calling the newly elected 240-seat parliament to its first session at 10 am. During the proceedings, the President will address the newly elected Members of Parliament. According to constitutional protocol, the sitting will officially open with the oldest MP present, identified as Rumen Milanov of Progressive Bulgaria.
The ceremony will require all MPs to take an oath before swearing allegiance to the Constitution and the laws of the country. Following the oath, the Bulgarian and European anthems will be played in the plenary chamber. By tradition, the various parties and coalitions represented within the National Assembly will issue statements.
Subsequently, the members will elect the Chair and Deputy Chairs of the Assembly, with the Chair then announcing the formation and leadership of the parliamentary groups. The composition of the newly elected parliament was previously announced by the Central Election Commission (CEC) on April 23. The results showed Progressive Bulgaria securing 131 seats, followed by GERB–UDF with 39, Continue the Change – Democratic Bulgaria with 37, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms with 21, and Vazrazhdane with 12.
