Following a statement from the acting Secretary General of the Interior Ministry, Georgi Kandev, alleging pressure to resign, Continue the Change (CC) leader Assen Vassilev issued a public critique via Facebook. Vassilev asserted that when someone begins doing their job, they are allegedly targeted with false accusations. He characterized the threats against Secretary General Kandev as “absolutely scandalous.” Furthermore, Vassilev stated that achieving a prosperous and just Bulgaria aligned with European standards necessitates the immediate replacement of the Supreme Judicial Council and a comprehensive overhaul of the judicial system.
Vassilev accompanied these comments with a photograph of Kandev, captioned with the statement, “I won’t go home.”
Earlier on Friday, Kandev posted a video message on Facebook indicating that he had received directives to leave his post but stated his refusal to “bow to threats and backroom deals.” The conflict intensified after Kandev reported that someone, including an individual known by the nickname “Kartofa” [The Potato], provided false testimony against him at the Sofia City Prosecution Office on Thursday.
