Gospodinov’s Novel “Time Shelter” Published in Japan, Breaks Into Top 5 Foreign Bestsellers

The novel Time Shelter has been published in Japan, according to an announcement made by author Georgi Gospodinov. Gospodinov stated on Facebook that the book was released in Tokyo in April by the Kayakawa publishing house. He noted that this publication represents a significant milestone, as it marks the first Bulgarian novel to be published in Japan since 1989.

The reception of the novel has been positive, with reports indicating that it currently ranks among the top five best-selling foreign publications on Amazon Japan. Gospodinov also mentioned the translation process, acknowledging that Kenji Terashima handled the translation into Japanese. The author added a lighthearted comment in his post, referencing the character Gaustin and the Japanese language, while also noting that his works have achieved translation into numerous global languages.

To date, books by Gospodinov have been translated into English, German, Polish, Dutch, Croatian, Spanish, Norwegian, Swedish, Chinese, Arabic, and Brazilian Portuguese.
