Coach Blengini Urges Fans to Watch Giro d’Italia Start in Bulgaria

Gianlorenzo Blengini, the head coach of the Bulgarian men’s national volleyball team, encouraged Bulgarians to attend the initial stages of the Giro d’Italia, which will take place in the country for the first time this week. The prestigious race, starting with the Grande Partenza on May 8 in Nessebar, is scheduled to pass through Burgas, Veliko Tarnovo, and Plovdiv before concluding in Sofia on May 10, after which it continues in Italy. Speaking about the event, Blengini stated that the experience of seeing the race live is unique.

He noted that while the start of such a major cycling event can be observed elsewhere, witnessing it in person offers a distinct perspective. Regarding the Giro itself, the Italian coach emphasized its national importance, describing it as one of the greatest sporting events representing Italy globally. He highlighted the enduring global recognition of the iconic pink jersey and the historical significance of legends like Fausto Coppi and Gino Bartali.

Blengini also discussed his personal increase in cycling activity, explaining that it allows him to train without aggravating knee or back issues. Currently, the coach and his players are training in Samokov. The team expects to follow the Giro peloton during the third stage on May 10.

According to the coach, the opportunity to observe professional cyclists up close provides a unique insight into the sport’s elite level. He stated that the entire team plans to find time to watch the passing of the race through Samokov, adding that witnessing the event live is invaluable. Blengini, who previously led the Bulgarian team to silver at the 2025 World Championship, confirmed that the coach and players are eager to watch the proceedings.
