The Bulgarian-Macedonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) was officially launched on Friday during a ceremony held at the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI). Attendees included Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry Anton Kostadinov, the Ambassador of the Republic of North Macedonia to Bulgaria, Agneza Rusi-Popovska, local mayors, and business representatives from both nations. Atanas Radev will serve as the inaugural chair of the new bilateral chamber.
Radev addressed the gathering, emphasizing the need to build connections between the two neighboring countries. He stated the BMCCI aims to establish a foundational bridge between the two economies. Kostadinov noted that the economic relationship between Bulgaria and North Macedonia is substantial, though the current trade turnover of EUR 1.3 billion is considered below the potential of their ties.
He recommended deeper cooperation in sectors such as energy, construction, pharmaceuticals, tourism, and agriculture, urging a constructive dialogue among business organizations. Ambassador Rusi-Popovska highlighted Bulgaria’s importance to North Macedonia, not only as a neighboring market but also as a gateway to the European Union. She linked stronger economic ties to North Macedonia’s EU integration process, while also calling for increased investment in areas like energy, manufacturing, and transport.
Ivan Todorov of the BCCI echoed this, stressing the need for improved connectivity across road, rail, and air infrastructure. The launch was accompanied by the first Bulgarian–Macedonian Business Forum. The chamber plans to host such forums annually in both countries to strengthen commerce relations, foster joint ventures, and enhance cooperation across industry sectors.
The establishment of the chamber underscores a commitment to deepening bilateral economic partnership.
