Warner Bros Discovery Bulgaria, the rights holder for broadcasting the Giro d’Italia, has issued recommendations for cycling fans planning to watch the race live during its stages in Bulgaria. Cycling is a very different spectator sport compared to others and involves a number of specific pecularities. While viewers in Bulgaria can follow every second of the race from home via Eurosport and HBO Max, attending in person offers a unique experience.
All stages will remain available on demand in HBO Max’s “Sport” section for at least one month after the race ends. Start and finish zones are restricted areas. Access is limited to organizers, teams, media and accredited personnel, and closures begin well in advance.
Arriving late is not recommended, as visibility may be poor and the best viewing spots already taken. Visitors should be prepared to walk, sometimes over longer distances, as there are no designated parking areas for spectators. Available spaces are reserved for teams, media and organizers.
Close contact with riders is possible mainly near team bus parking areas, typically at finish zones and more rarely at starts. Fans are encouraged to support the riders by applauding and enjoying the atmosphere. Spectators should not step onto the roadway.
If they do, they should move away well in advance of the riders’ arrival to avoid endangering them. Loose items such as bags, straps or cameras should be secured, as they could catch on passing cyclists. Crossing the road should only be done when it is absolutely clear that no riders are approaching at high speed.
Instructions from race stewards should always be followed, particularly at start and finish areas. Fans are advised not to attempt to take water bottles directly from riders, whether from the bike, their hands or mouths, but may politely ask, which often results in a positive response. After finishing a stage, riders may still be under adrenaline or visibly irritated, and their reactions can be heightened.
In team bus areas, spectators should avoid walking in the middle of the road and remain alert for cyclists returning to their teams. This website uses cookies. By accepting cookies you can enjoy a better experience while browsing pages.
