Gabriela Naplatanova Elected to Chair Council for Electronic Media

Journalist Gabriela Naplatanova has been elected to chair the Council for Electronic Media (CEM). Her nomination was put forward by the previous CEM leader, Simona Veleva, and member Kadrinka Kadrinova. During the CEM meeting held on Thursday, Naplatanova received support from Prolet Velkova, while Galina Georgieva opted to abstain from voting.

Gabriela Naplatanova’s tenure as a CEM member began in May 2022, when she was appointed by the then President of Bulgaria, Rumen Radev. Her membership remains valid until 2028. Prior to this election, she served as the acting chair of the CEM between April and October of 2024.

Academically, Naplatanova earned her degree in Public Relations from the Sofia University Faculty of Journalism. She also presented a thesis at the G. S.

Rakovski Defence and Staff College in Sofia, focusing on “Managing Media Effects and Media Operations During an Armed Conflict.” Furthermore, she participated in media programs organized by NATO. Professionally, Naplatanova has a long history with bTV, covering military conflicts in the Balkans, Iraq, and Afghanistan since the station’s establishment in 2000. For her documentary, Tihina, she received a Bulgarian Navy award.
