Customs officers at the Lesovo border crossing seized a significant quantity of narcotics from a lorry transporting household appliances. According to the Customs Agency, the contraband, identified as marijuana, was valued at approximately EUR 3 million based on judicial pricing. The incident occurred on Thursday when the lorry, bearing Romanian registration, arrived at the outbound lane of the Lesovo border crossing.
The driver, a Turkish national, presented documentation asserting that the cargo consisted solely of washing machines in transit from Romania to Turkey via Bulgaria, and declared no other goods. During a thorough customs inspection, officers discovered 25 boxes concealed atop the declared washing machines. These boxes contained a total of 338 vacuum-sealed packages filled with dry, green leafy material.
Field drug testing conducted on the substance confirmed the presence of marijuana. Authorities subsequently seized a total of 362 kg of the narcotic. The driver has been detained, and pre-trial proceedings have been initiated regarding the discovery.
The Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Yambol is scheduled to file a request with the court seeking the imposition of a remand measure of detention in custody. The seizure highlights ongoing efforts to monitor and secure goods passing through the international border.
