Iotova to Hold Consultations with Parliamentary Groups Tuesday

President Iliana Iotova has scheduled a series of meetings to conduct formal consultations with the six major parliamentary groups on May 5. According to the President’s press secretariat, these discussions are mandated by the Constitution, following which President Iotova will assign the Prime Minister-designate proposed by the largest parliamentary bloc to form the government. The schedule begins with the largest political faction, Progressive Bulgaria, which currently holds 131 seats in the 240-seat National Assembly.

Following this initial meeting, iotova is slated to meet sequentially with representatives from GERB-UDF, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, Democratic Bulgaria, Continue the Change, and Vazrazhdane. These consultative meetings represent a critical constitutional step in the formation of the new governing cabinet. After completing her engagements with all six groups, President Iotova is scheduled to address the media to provide an official statement regarding the outcomes of the consultations.

The parliamentary proceedings are taking place shortly after the members of parliament were sworn in on April 30, an event that saw Mihaela Dotsova, a member of Progressive Bulgaria, elected as the Chair of the National Assembly. The consultations are designed to navigate the political process and determine the necessary leadership structure for the country.
