52nd National Assembly Opens

The 52nd National Assembly of Bulgaria convened for its inaugural session on Thursday morning at 10 a.m. The opening proceedings were conducted by Rumen Milanov, a 78-year-old representative from Progressive Bulgaria, who addressed the gathered lawmakers. Milanov outlined two primary objectives for the legislative body: reinforcing the rule of law and ensuring national peace.

He emphasized that overcoming partisan differences was necessary to secure the future for the Bulgarian people. He stated that the national spirit must supersede internal disagreements, noting that citizens had entrusted the elected officials with their confidence and expectations. Following the address, Milanov administered the oath to the 240 attending lawmakers.

The oath requires each member to swear that they will uphold the Constitution and the laws of the land, committing to guide all actions based on the interests of the citizenry. The ceremony included the playing of the Bulgarian and European anthems within the debating chamber. During the performance of the Ode to Joy, members of the Vazrazhdane faction remained seated.

After taking the oath, the MPs were required to sign the official documentation and submit it to the assembly administration. The proceedings underscored a commitment to collective governance and the maintenance of the nation’s constitutional framework.
