Iotova to Hold Consultations with Parliamentary Groups Tuesday

President Iliana Iotova is scheduled to conduct a series of high-level consultations on May 5th, according to her press secretariat. These meetings are a key procedural step outlined by the Constitution, following which the President will appoint the Prime Minister-designate proposed by the largest parliamentary faction to form the government. The schedule for the consultations begins with Progressive Bulgaria, which holds the largest representation with 131 seats in the 240-seat National Assembly.

Following this initial meeting, President Iotova will proceed to meet sequentially with the leadership groups of GERB-UDF, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, Democratic Bulgaria, Continue the Change, and Vazrazhdane. The planned consultations represent a critical phase in the formation of the new administration. After concluding her discussions with all the major parliamentary groups, President Iotova has indicated that she will issue a formal statement to the media.

This procedural sequence follows the swearing-in of the Members of Parliament on April 30th, during which Mihaela Dotsova, a representative of Progressive Bulgaria, was elected as the National Assembly Chair. The consultations are designed to facilitate the constitutional process of selecting the next government leadership, ensuring a structured transition in the political structure following the recent parliamentary elections.
