Iotova to Hold Consultations with Parliamentary Groups Tuesday

President Iliana Iotova is scheduled to hold a series of consultations with the six parliamentary groups on May 5, according to the President’s press secretariat on Monday. Under the constitutional framework, these consultations precede the President’s assignment of a Prime Minister-designate. This individual will be proposed by the largest parliamentary group to form the government.

The schedule of meetings begins with Progressive Bulgaria, the largest parliamentary group, which commands 131 seats in the 240-seat Parliament. Following this, President Iotova will meet sequentially with representatives from GERB-UDF, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, Democratic Bulgaria, Continue the Change, and Vazrazhdane. After completing the consultations, President Iotova is expected to address the media with a statement.

The Members of Parliament were sworn in on April 30, during which time Progressive Bulgaria MP Mihaela Dotsova was elected as the Chair of the National Assembly. These planned consultations are a key procedural step in the formation of the new government, following the parliamentary elections.
