During the inaugural session of the 52nd National Assembly, Progressive Bulgaria MP Petar Vitanov addressed his colleagues, issuing a caution regarding the immediate political challenges facing the nation. Earlier in the proceedings, Rumen Milanov, an MP from Progressive Bulgaria, presided over the opening sitting and administered the oath to all 240 lawmakers. Addressing the assembly, Vitanov stated that the period of political excitement would soon conclude.
He warned that within the next few days, Progressive Bulgaria would be called upon to assume the duties of governing, a role that would necessitate confronting what he termed a “captured state.”
The MP outlined several critical legislative and administrative tasks awaiting the government. Foremost among these are the urgent necessities of passing the national budget and resolving outstanding issues related to the treasury. Furthermore, Vitanov emphasized the need for concerted efforts to curb market speculation.
Beyond the immediate financial concerns, Vitanov highlighted the selection of a new Supreme Judicial Council and the appointment of a new prosecutor general as major policy priorities for Progressive Bulgaria. He noted that achieving these goals requires a qualified majority. While asserting that Progressive Bulgaria is instrumental to this process, he also stressed that securing the necessary support from other political parties will be crucial for the advancement of these reforms within Bulgaria.
The political maneuvering expected in the coming days will define the immediate trajectory of the country’s governance.
