Development Minister Discusses Ways to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation During Visit to Turkiye

Bulgaria’s Regional Development Minister, Nikolay Naydenov, participated in the 17th ITS European Congress in Istanbul. The Ministry’s press centre reported that the forum served as a key gathering point for experts, researchers, and public authorities, focusing on practical solutions and innovations in smart mobility and intelligent transport systems. During the congress, the minister held a working meeting with Omer Sayan, the Deputy Transport and Infrastructure Minister of Turkiye.

The discussion centered on strategies to enhance infrastructure cooperation between Bulgaria and Turkiye. Both sides expressed a commitment to deepening collaboration to increase transport capacity and connectivity along the north-south axis, specifically referencing potential improvements via the Black Sea Motorway. Additionally, Naydenov met with Mehmet Cahit Turhan, CEO of the company managing the Northern Marmara Motorway.

This motorway, which utilizes ITS technologies, features the recently completed Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, recognized as one of the world’s tallest bridges. Officials from the Turkish delegation stated their readiness to share extensive experience regarding the construction and management of large-scale infrastructure projects with Bulgarian counterparts. The meetings underscore ongoing efforts to advance regional transport links through technological partnership and mutual development.
