Bulgaria’s Regional Development Minister Nikolay Naydenov participated in the 17th ITS European Congress in Istanbul, according to the Ministry’s press center on Monday. The congress serves as a major forum for smart mobility and intelligent transport, convening researchers, public authorities, and experts to present innovative technologies and practical solutions. During the congress, the minister held a working meeting with Turkiye’s Deputy Transport and Infrastructure Minister, Omer Sayan.
The discussions centered on methods to strengthen infrastructure cooperation between Bulgaria and Turkiye. Both sides expressed a mutual commitment to deepening collaboration aimed at increasing overall transport capacity and connectivity along the vital north-south axis, with specific mention of the Black Sea Motorway. Furthermore, Naydenov met with Mehmet Cahit Turhan, the CEO of the company responsible for the Northern Marmara Motorway.
This motorway, which utilizes ITS technologies, incorporates the recently completed Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, recognized as one of the world’s tallest bridges. The Turkish delegation indicated its readiness to share expertise regarding the construction and management of such large-scale infrastructure initiatives.
