Caretaker Minister of Youth and Sports, Dimitar Iliev, conducted an online working meeting with representatives from institutions responsible for organizing the first three stages of the 2026 Giro d’Italia cycling race in Bulgaria. According to the Ministry of Sports, the meeting addressed current organizational progress, inter-institutional coordination, and forthcoming key activities. Minister Iliev reviewed the preparedness of all involved parties, stressing the critical role of effective coordination for the successful staging of the event.
He acknowledged the commitment shown thus far, stating that while hosting an event of this magnitude presents a significant challenge, joint efforts are ensuring continued progress toward a successful competition. Participants confirmed that preparations are adhering to the established plan, with measures being implemented for security, logistics, and overall organization. Discussions also covered protocols for the safety of both participants and spectators, alongside optimizing the conduct of the race.
The Giro d’Italia is scheduled to commence in Nessebar on the Black Sea on May 8. The route will subsequently pass through Burgas, Veliko Tarnovo, and Plovdiv before concluding in Sofia on May 10. To provide dedicated coverage, BTA has launched a new section titled “Giro d’Italia 2026 – Cycling in Bulgaria,” which will cover the three stages passing through Bulgaria from May 8 to May 10, 2026, highlighting the participation of Italia in the country.
