Gospodinov’s Novel “Time Shelter” Published in Japan, Breaks Into Top 5 Foreign Bestsellers

The novel Time Shelter has been released in the Japanese book market, according to author Georgi Gospodinov. Gospodinov announced via social media that the book was officially published in Japan by Kayakawa publishing house in Tokyo this past April. The publication marks a notable cultural milestone, as reports indicate that Time Shelter is the first novel by a Bulgarian author to be published in Japan since 1989.

This release has garnered significant attention, with the title currently ranking among the top five best-selling foreign publications on Amazon Japan. In his announcement, Gospodinov also mentioned that the translation was handled by Kenji Terashima, adding a lighthearted comment regarding the setting, noting, “Gaustin speaks Japanese. And he arrived in Japan before me – we will settle this.”

Gospodinov’s literary reach is extensive, with his works having been translated into numerous international languages, including English, German, Polish, Dutch, Croatian, Spanish, Norwegian, Swedish, Chinese, Arabic, and Brazilian Portuguese.
