Vassilev noted that the power of the narrative lies in its ability to convey both positive and difficult realities. He referenced Stoyanov’s work, citing an instance where Georgi Benkovski observed the burning of Panagyurishte and the deaths of allies, yet maintained that his core objective had already been met, illustrating profound tragedy and the burden of leadership. Commenting on BTA’s conference series, Vassilev framed the discussions not as mere lectures, but as dialogues linking historical events to contemporary Bulgarian life.
He suggested that the uprising continues to raise questions relevant to modern public discourse. Vassilev concluded by observing that even during the 50th anniversary commemoration, Bulgarian society exhibited deep divisions, offering what he termed a contemporary warning.
