Opens National Series on Pencho Slaveykov and Bulgarian Modernism with Event in Tryavna

The Bulgarian Telegraph Agency (BTA) has initiated a nationwide series of discussions across its press clubs commemorating the 160th birth anniversary of poet Pencho Slaveykov and the broader movement of Bulgarian modernism. The inaugural event, titled “Pencho Slaveykov Today,” is being held in his hometown of Tryavna at the Slaveykov House Museum, moderated by literary scholar Yordan Eftimov. The initiative aims to prompt deep societal reflection on the life and work of Pencho Slaveykov and his contemporaries, including members of the “Misal” literary circle, who were instrumental in modernizing Bulgaria.

Eftimov noted that the discussions are intended to encourage the public to examine national identity through the lens of Slaveykov’s enduring literary legacy. The campaign will reach BTA’s 45 national press clubs, engaging researchers, educators, and writers. To mark the occasion, the December issue of LIK magazine will feature reports from the discussions and a special section containing 160 individual contributions.
