Two of President Iotova’s Armenia Visit for European Political Community Summit

Bulgarian President Iliana Iotova is continuing her visit to Armenia for the Eighth Summit of the European Political Community, which commences in Yerevan on Monday. A key focus of her participation will be a high-level event addressing the impact of the Vertical Gas Corridor on regional energy security. This strategic corridor initiative is designed to enhance energy security and diversify natural gas supplies across Southeastern, Eastern, and Central Europe.

During the forum, President Iotova is scheduled to deliver remarks emphasizing transport and energy connectivity within Europe. Her agenda also includes participation in the “European Coalition Against Drugs” event. On the sidelines of the Summit, she will meet with Greek President Konstantinos Tasoulas.

The European Political Community Summit is co-chaired by European Council President Antonio Costa and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Prior to the Summit, on Sunday, President Iotova and Prime Minister Pashinyan signed a Joint Declaration establishing a Strategic Partnership between Bulgaria and Armenia. Furthermore, President Iotova and her Armenian counterpart, Vahagn Khachaturyan, held discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation.

During these talks, President Iotova underscored the role of the European Political Community in fostering broader European connectivity. The visit also included a visit by the president to the Peyo Yavorov Primary School in Yerevan, named after the renowned Bulgarian poet. The discussions throughout the visit underscore a commitment to bolstering regional ties, with the energy security implications of the gas infrastructure remaining a central topic for the visiting president.
