2026 Final to Bring Together 40 Students from Over 12 Universities to Tackle Disinformation

The final of DisInfoHack 2026 is scheduled for Monday at the GATE Institute of St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia, featuring 40 students representing over 12 universities from Bulgaria and abroad. The event will be inaugurated by caretaker Innovation and Growth Minister Irena Mladenova and caretaker Foreign Minister Nadezhda Neynsky.

DisInfoHack operates as a specialized initiative that merges academic research methodologies with practical skills training, focusing on analyzing the digital information environment. The program aims to engage young people committed to fostering a more reliable information space. This 2026 iteration, which followed earlier editions including the 2025 student hackathon and DisInfoHack Junior, brings together participants analyzing Bulgarian media and the digital landscape.

The students are tasked with identifying disinformation narratives and developing actionable solutions to mitigate their impact across six key thematic areas: elections, wars, ecology, migration, patriotism, and crises. The final ceremony at the GATE Institute will showcase the students’ findings, recognize the winners, and present key recommendations for bolstering information integrity in Bulgaria. Furthermore, the initiative’s model is slated for implementation in Poland in May 2026.

DisInfoHack is structured under the three-year project CoDE – Countering Disinformation Environment in Bulgaria, which utilizes a scientific approach to build information resilience. The project is executed by St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia through the GATE Institute, in collaboration with the European Studies Department, the Faculty of Philosophy
