Chinar Folklore Ensemble from Barcelona to Perform Bulgarian Northern Dance in Munich

The Stariyat Chinar (The Old Platanus Tree) folklore ensemble from Barcelona, Spain, is scheduled to perform the Severnyashki Tanc (Northern Dance) at the eleventh edition of the “Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Hands” traveling gathering. This event will take place from May 15 to 17 at BMW Park in Munich, Germany. Siyana Danova, the ensemble’s leader and choreographer, noted that the group’s all-female composition influenced the interpretation of the dance.

She stated that the performance transforms the traditional piece into a narrative centered on female friendship, mutual support, and the diverse relationships among women, including mothers and friends. Danova emphasized that on stage, the members function as partners connected by trust and shared rhythm. “Our message is about the power of the female community and about that quiet but sustainable connection that brings harmony and cohesion,” she commented.

She added that through emotion and movement, folklore bridges tradition and modernity. The “Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance” festival is organized for amateur folklore ensemble groups performing outside Bulgaria. The initiative originated with the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, which hosted the first edition in 2015 and the tenth in 2025.

The eleventh edition in Munich anticipates participation from over 100 dance groups and an attendance of more than 4,000 guests. The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) is the official media partner for the event and will provide coverage of all participants.
