The Stariyat Chinar (Old Platanus Tree) folklore ensemble from Barcelona, Spain, is scheduled to perform Severnyashki Tanc (Northern Dance) at the eleventh edition of the traveling gathering, “Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Hands.” This event will take place from May 15 to 17 at BMW Park in Munich, Germany. Siyana Danova, the ensemble’s leader and choreographer, noted that their all-female composition influenced the interpretation of the piece. She explained that the ensemble adapted the dance to tell a narrative centered on female friendship, mutual support, and the diverse relationships among women, including mothers, friends, and like-minded individuals.
According to Danova, the performers function not merely as dancers but as partners connected by shared rhythm and trust. She stated that their message emphasizes the strength of the female community and the subtle yet enduring connections that foster harmony and cohesion. Danova concluded that through emotion and movement, folklore transcends mere tradition, acting as a bridge to modernity.
The festival, “Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance,” is organized for amateur folklore ensemble groups performing outside of Bulgaria. The initiative was established by the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, which has hosted previous editions. The upcoming 11th edition in Munich anticipates participation from over 100 dance groups and an attendance of more than 4,000 guests.
The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) is serving as the official media partner for the event.
