Crafts Three-Metre Replica of Giro d’Italia Trophy for Third Stage of Race

A three-metre replica of the Giro d’Italia trophy is being fabricated in Plovdiv for the third stage of the cycling race. According to Plovdiv 2019 Foundation Executive Director Kiril Velchev, the steel installation will be situated at the roundabout on Maritsa-Yug Blvd, near the Water Palace, along the cycling tour route. The replica is being created by the artist company Nedyalka Mitkova and Dimitar Mitkov.

The family noted that the project presented a challenge due to the trophy’s complex, distinctive, and recognizable shape. Known as the “Trofeo Senza Fine” (Endless Trophy), the design features a spiral ribbon that rises upward and narrows in the center, evoking the appearance of an hourglass. Nedyalka Mitkova stated that creating the trophy was both an honor and a significant responsibility.

The team opted for stainless steel for the installation to ensure durability against weather and time. This material also facilitates the polished effect visible inside the original trophy, while a delicate sheen has been recreated on the exterior. Upon completion, the entire piece will be finished in the original bronze color.

The total height of the installation is set at 4.5 metres, incorporating a metal pedestal engraved with the year the Giro passed through the city and the Plovdiv logo. The structure is estimated to weigh around 1.5 tonnes, and spotlights will be installed at its base to illuminate the trophy at night. BTA has also launched a new section dedicated to “Giro d’Italia 2026 – Cycling in Bulgaria,” covering the three stages scheduled to pass through the country from May 8 to 10, 2026.
