Folklore Group Chilnovski Babi to Participate in Munich Festival

The authentic Bulgarian folklore group Chilnovski Babi, originating from Chilnov in the Ruse Region, is scheduled to participate in the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival. This event will take place at BMW Park in Munich from May 15 to May 17. According to the group’s artistic director, Stefka Atanasova, the ensemble will perform two pieces: “Libe le, libe hubavo” and “Song for Bulgaria.” Atanasova noted that preparations for the festival are underway as the group recently marked its 40th anniversary.

She stated that the ensemble comprises women from various ethnic backgrounds, all hailing from Bulgaria, with members ranging in age from approximately 60 to 83. The founding of Chilnovski Babi dates back to March 1986 in Chilnov. Atanasova recounted that the folklore ensemble was formed by a gathering of women dedicated to preserving and showcasing their homeland’s traditions through song and custom, both within Bulgaria and internationally.

The Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance festival is dedicated to amateur folklore ensembles performing outside of Bulgaria. The initiative was launched by the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France. For its 11th edition in Munich, the festival anticipates participation from over 100 dance ensembles and an attendance exceeding 4,000 guests.

The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) serves as the official media partner for the event.
