Folklore Group Chilnovski Babi to Participate in Munich Festival

The authentic folklore group Chilnovski Babi, hailing from Chilnov in Bulgaria’s Ruse Region, is scheduled to participate in the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival. The event will take place from May 15 to May 17 at BMW Park in Munich. According to the group’s artistic director, Stefka Atanasova, the ensemble will perform two pieces: “Libe le, libe hubavo” and “Song for Bulgaria.” Atanasova noted that preparations for the festival are proceeding with high energy, coinciding with the group’s 40th anniversary.

She stated that the group, composed of women from various ethnic backgrounds across Bulgaria, aims to honor their homeland’s traditions through song and dance. The group traces its origins back to March 1986 in Chilnov. Since its formation, the mission of the Chilnovski Babi has been to preserve and showcase Bulgarian culture both within Bulgaria and internationally.

The current membership ranges in age from approximately 60 to 83 years old. The Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance festival is dedicated to amateur folklore ensembles performing outside of Bulgaria. The initiative was established by the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, and has grown significantly.

For this 11th edition in Munich, the festival anticipates participation from over 100 dance ensembles and an attendance of more than 4,000 guests. The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) serves as the official media partner for the event.
