The Chilnovski Babi, an authentic folklore group from the village of Chilnov in Bulgaria’s Ruse Region, is scheduled to participate in the 11th Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance travelling festival. The event will take place from May 15 to May 17 at BMW Park in Munich. The group’s artistic director, Stefka Atanasova, announced that the ensemble plans to perform two songs: “Libe le, libe hubavo” and “Song for Bulgaria.”
Atanasova noted that preparations for the festival are proceeding with high energy, coinciding with the group marking its 40th anniversary.
She emphasized the group’s mission, stating that the women aim to bring joy while celebrating Bulgarian traditions and virtues. The ensemble is composed of women from various ethnic backgrounds, all originating from Bulgaria, with ages ranging from approximately 60 to 83 years old. The formation of the group dates back to March 1986 in the village of Chilnov.
Atanasova recounted how the initial gathering of graceful women formed the folklore group with the goal of promoting Bulgarian culture through song and custom, both within Bulgaria and internationally. The Expats Join Hands in Worldwide Dance festival is organized for amateur folklore ensembles performing outside Bulgaria. The initiative was established by the Ot Izvora group in Lyon, France, which hosted the first and tenth editions.
The 11th festival in Munich anticipates participation from over 100 dance ensembles and an attendance of more than 4,000 guests. The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) is serving as the official media partner for the event.
