An overnight drone attack targeting the Black Sea city of Odesa, Southern Ukraine, resulted in reports of two individuals killed and fourteen others injured, according to Oleh Kiper, Head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration. Rescuers from the State Emergency Service evacuated 36 residents, including two children, from the affected areas. The consequences of the assault on Odesa included significant destruction within residential zones and damage to a merchant vessel flying the flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis, which was en route to a port in Greater Odesa.
A fire broke out aboard the ship but was reported to have been quickly extinguished by the crew, with no casualties mentioned in relation to the vessel. Kiper stated that at least three residential buildings sustained considerable damage, including destroyed facades and shattered windows. Authorities confirmed that relevant services are currently working to manage the aftermath of the overnight incident.
Separately, demographic data was provided regarding the region’s population. According to an official census, Bulgarians constituted the third largest population group in Ukraine in 2001, numbering over 150,000 in the Odesa Region. Within the city of Odesa itself, an estimated 50,000 to 60,000 Bulgarian residents reside.
The most concentrated Bulgarian population areas are located in the Bolhrad, Izmail, and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi districts.
