Gurov Sees Conspiracy against Interior Ministry Secretary General

Caretaker Prime Minister Andrey Gurov publicly stated support for Georgi Kandev, the acting Secretary General of the Interior Ministry, following allegations made by Kandev himself. In a video message posted on Facebook, Gurov asserted that both he and the entire caretaker government stand firmly behind Kandev, adding that all honest Bulgarian citizens support him. Kandev had previously stated via a video message that he faced pressure to resign due to false testimony provided against him at the Sofia City Prosecution Office by individuals, including one known by the nickname “Kartofa.” Gurov characterized the situation as a “shameful attempt at revanchism.”

The Prime Minister alleged that a conspiracy has begun against the Secretary General following actions taken to halt attacks on democracy and secure millions of euros intended to undermine elections.

Gurov specifically named a former police chief and the businessman “Kartofa” as being involved in this alleged conspiracy. He labeled the situation as revenge, issuing a warning to those who plan to oppose lawful action. Gurov directed his comments toward the Sofia City Prosecution Office, naming prosecutor Emiliya Rusinova, whom he described as an associate of Petyo “The Euro” Petrov and the prosecutor overseeing parliamentary immunities for the caretaker government.

He addressed perceived opposition, stating, “we see you. And all of Bulgaria sees you. We are not afraid.

We outnumber you.”

Further context provided details suggesting connections between prosecutor Rusinova and Petyo Petrov. Caretaker Interior Minister Emil Dechev had previously informed the media that in 2021, Rusinova shared a vehicle with Petrov while traveling to North Macedonia. Reports indicated that Rusinova repeatedly crossed the border on trips accompanied by several individuals, sometimes including Petrov.
