Caretaker Minister of Youth and Sports, Dimitar Iliev, convened an online working meeting with representatives from the institutions tasked with organizing the first three stages of the 2026 Giro d’Italia cycling race in Bulgaria. According to the Ministry of Sports, the meeting, held on Friday, addressed the current organizational progress, the coordination among participating bodies, and upcoming key activities. Minister Iliev assessed the readiness of the involved parties, stressing that effective inter-institutional coordination is crucial for the successful staging of the event.
He acknowledged the efforts made thus far, stating that while hosting an event of this magnitude presents a significant challenge, joint institutional efforts are ensuring progress with confidence. He affirmed a commitment to continued, fully coordinated work to guarantee the successful hosting of the competition. Participants confirmed that preparations are advancing according to the established plan, with necessary measures being implemented for security, logistics, and overall organization.
Discussions also covered safety protocols for both participants and spectators, as well as the optimal execution of the competition. The 2026 Giro d’Italia in Bulgaria is scheduled to commence on May 8 in Nessebar on the Black Sea. The race route will subsequently pass through Burgas, Veliko Tarnovo, and Plovdiv, concluding in Sofia on May 10.
