The Change: We Are Very Far from Becoming One Party with Yes, Bulgaria

Nikolay Denkov, former prime minister and deputy leader of Continue the Change (CC), stated that the prospect of merging into a single political entity with Yes, Bulgaria is distant. While acknowledging shared objectives with Yes, Bulgaria, Denkov emphasized that the parties hold differing views on the appropriate methods for achieving those goals. Although CC, Yes, Bulgaria, and Democrats for Strong Bulgaria have functioned as coalition partners since 2023, no formal coalition agreement is currently in place.

Last week, the National Council of Yes, Bulgaria directed the party to formulate a formal coalition agreement and propose a roadmap for a unified political structure based on their current alliance. Denkov criticized the two alternatives presented, describing one as establishing a common party under the proposal of Yes, Bulgaria, and the other as a complete separation. He argued that forming a single party would restrict their support base to an estimated 6-7% within major urban centers.

The deputy leader clarified that the situation does not represent a “divorce,” but rather a cooperative arrangement where each party can advance its individual strengths. He noted that the parties have already agreed to nominate a joint candidate for the upcoming presidential elections. Regarding the possibility of forming two separate parliamentary groups, Denkov stated that the decision rests with the Members of Parliament upon their convocation.

This perspective contrasts with earlier statements from Ivaylo Mirchev and Bozhidar Bozhanov, co-leaders of Yes, Bulgaria, who maintained that the coalition’s electorate favors consolidation into a unified political project for Bulgaria.
