The Camping & Caravaning Expo 2026 opened Friday and runs through Sunday at the former Sofia Land park area. Organized by Camping.BG, this event marks the 12th annual iteration of the forum. This year, 99 exhibitors from Bulgaria, Greece, Romania, and Germany are participating, with an expected attendance of over 12,000 visitors.
The expo showcases the latest trends in recreational vehicles, including campers, caravans, and various outdoor activities such as camping, water sports, and cycling. According to Veselin Valev, founder of Camping.BG, interest in camping tourism in Bulgaria is increasing. He noted that equipment prices vary widely, ranging from approximately EUR 100 to EUR 100,000 for campers, with some models reaching much higher values.
Valev advised that a trailer offers a budget-friendly alternative to a fully equipped camper. The choice between a camper and a caravan depends on the intended trip; campers are suitable for mobile travel, while caravans are better suited for longer stays in one location. Organizers recommend that first-time visitors utilize regulated campgrounds, which provide essential amenities like showers and toilets, as wild camping can be less comfortable.
Bulgaria currently has over 200 campsites, with the inland locations often boasting higher service levels, including modern thermal campgrounds. The expo provides visitors with practical advice across its schedule. Sessions will cover topics such as converting vans into campervans, solar power, and responsible travel.
The event also emphasizes sustainable tourism through educational games and presentations on eco-friendly travel. A key consideration for all travelers remains weight limits, with the total load needing to stay under 3.5 tonnes. Infrastructure, particularly quality roads connecting campsites to tourist sites, was identified as a primary area needing development to boost the sector.
