Someone Begins Doing Their Job, They Get Framed with False Witnesses – CC Leader Vassilev

Following statements from Interior Ministry’s acting Secretary General, Georgi Kandev, regarding pressure to resign, Continue the Change (CC) leader Assen Vassilev issued a public commentary via Facebook. Vassilev asserted that in Bulgaria, someone who begins doing their job can immediately become the target of false accusations. He characterized the reported threats against Secretary General Kandev as “absolutely scandalous.”

In his remarks, Vassilev stated that achieving a “prosperous, just, and European Bulgaria” necessitates the immediate replacement of the Supreme Judicial Council and a comprehensive overhaul of the judicial system.

This commentary followed Kandev’s own video message posted earlier on Friday. In the video, Kandev addressed receiving a directive to step down, firmly stating that he would not yield to “threats and backroom deals.”

The controversy centers on allegations of false testimony. Kandev had reportedly been informed that individuals, including a person nicknamed “Kartofa,” provided false testimony against him at the Sofia City Prosecution Office on Thursday.

Vassilev’s political intervention suggests a pattern of obstruction against public service. The exchange highlights significant friction within Bulgaria’s governmental and judicial spheres, with political figures publicly challenging the integrity of ongoing institutional processes. The differing accounts regarding the pressure applied to Kandev underscore a continued political dispute over accountability within the Ministry and the justice system.
