Caretaker Economy and Industry Minister Irina Shtonova addressed the National Council of the Bulgarian Association of Industrial Capital, detailing the efforts of the caretaker government to support businesses amidst growing global uncertainty. The Economy Ministry reported on Friday that significant measures were implemented in collaboration with employers. Shtonova noted that an initial focus was addressing the calculation of monthly compensation for businesses affected by high electricity costs.
Initially calculated over a six-month period, the measure proved ineffective, leading the ministry to swiftly implement a revised system calculating compensation on a monthly basis. Furthermore, she highlighted the importance of the European Commission’s approval for temporary state aid. This aid allocates EUR 334 million over three years, specifically intended to maintain the economic viability of energy-intensive companies.
To mitigate the effects of the Middle East conflict, the government has introduced several targeted measures designed to support specific sectors without fueling inflationary pressure. These actions include providing liquidity support for transportation companies and agricultural producers. The government is currently guaranteeing lease agreements for these sectors, allowing payment deferrals until the end of the year.
Additionally, the increase in toll fees has been postponed, impacting all segments of the economy. Concluding her remarks, Shtonova emphasized that continuous dialogue between the ministry and employers is crucial for making sound decisions, a priority she intends to maintain.
