Bulgarians Join EU Citizens’ Crisis Preparedness Online Debate

A group of 150 citizens from various European Union member states convened online from April 24 to 26 for the second session of the European Citizens’ Panel on Preparedness. This gathering aims to develop actionable strategies to enhance how EU residents can respond to future crises and shocks. The discussions are designed to ensure that initiatives under the EU preparedness union strategy are inclusive and directly address the needs of the populace.

Participants revisited and deepened the priorities identified during earlier discussions. Key areas of focus included robust citizen engagement, education, solidarity, and inclusion. Furthermore, the panel addressed the integrity of communication—specifically combating the spread of disinformation—alongside comprehensive crisis management and other facets of European preparedness.

Among the attendees representing Bulgaria were four individuals from Sofia, Burgas, Isperih, and Reberkovo. During the event, Bulgarian participants emphasized the need for continued dialogue regarding proposals previously highlighted. Specifically, there was a strong focus on implementing educational training for all age groups, covering both theoretical knowledge and practical crisis response skills.

The discussions highlighted that several other critical ideas concerning disaster and crisis response will be debated. The overall goal of the panel is to synthesize citizen input into concrete policy recommendations, thereby strengthening the collective readiness of the EU population against unforeseen emergencies.
