Centre at Azalia Hotel in Sts Constantine and Helena Resort Attracts Growing Interest from Dutch, Polish Guests

Spa manager Nikolay Popov reports that the spa centre at the Azalia Hotel within the Sts Constantine and Helena resort is seeing an increase in visitors from the Netherlands and Poland. He attributes this growth to the facility’s utilization of natural healing resources, which include a combination of mineral water, seawater, lye, and healing mud. Popov also noted high levels of guest satisfaction regarding the expertise of the specialists on staff.

Balneological therapies are particularly popular among individuals over 60, with the most common ailments treated being musculoskeletal issues, neurodegenerative diseases, herniated discs, and lower back pain—conditions affecting nearly three-quarters of older adults. Complementing this, Lyubomir Stamboliyski, Commercial Director at Sts Constantine & Helena Holding AD, pointed to a broader trend: an increased focus on health among younger demographics since the pandemic. He suggests this shift will drive further expansion in wellness tourism.

Stamboliyski noted that the average age seeking rehabilitation is decreasing, moving from 40–45 to approximately 28–31. The service offerings at the spa centre are evolving from fixed packages to personalized protocols, mirroring medical industry practices. These programs extend beyond treatments using thermal water, mud, or specialized equipment; they now include guidance on diet, physical activity, and the use of supplements or homeopathic remedies.

To develop these comprehensive protocols, the company collaborates with external physicians across the country, allowing for virtual consultations. The resort attracts international visitors, including from Germany and the Czech Republic, while overall interest in medical and spa tourism is growing across the Balkans. This industry growth is highlighted by BTA’s initiative, which features over 200 certified spa and wellness centres in Bulgaria.
