Bulgarian businessman Atanas Bostandjiev has acquired majority ownership of PFC Levski Sofia, as announced by the club’s outgoing majority shareholder, Nasko Sirakov, on Friday. While Sirakov will retain the role of club president, he will no longer hold shares in the organization. Sirakov stated his decision to step down from shareholding after successfully stabilizing the club during a challenging period, ensuring its continued existence and identity.
He emphasized that maintaining continuity in leadership is vital for the future of Levski. Bostandjiev expressed his commitment to preserving the identity and independence of the club while aiming for sustainable success in both sporting performance and operational management. He welcomed Sirakov’s continued role as president.
A cornerstone of Levski’s future strategy is the planned new Georgi Asparuhov Stadium. Levski and the architectural and engineering firm IPA have revealed the concept, which requires an estimated total investment of EUR 120 million. The facility is designed to accommodate 24,718 seats according to Bulgarian Football Union standards and 23,032 seats under UEFA regulations.
Construction is slated to commence in spring 2027. Beyond its sporting function, the stadium will operate as a multifunctional complex, capable of hosting large-scale events, including concerts for up to 40,000 people, alongside integrated public park areas. Atanas Bostandjiev is the founder and CEO of Gemcorp Capital, an investment firm focused on emerging markets.
His professional background includes serving as CEO of VTB Capital in the UK and a partner at Goldman Sachs in London, where he co-headed the emerging markets business for Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
