Bulgarian businessman Atanas Bostandjiev has acquired majority ownership of PFC Levski Sofia, according to an announcement made Friday by the club’s outgoing majority shareholder, Nasko Sirakov. While Sirakov will retain the role of club president, he will no longer hold shares in the organization. Sirakov stated his decision to step down from shareholding after stabilizing the club during a critical period, emphasizing that his goal was to ensure the levski’s survival and preserve its identity.
He stressed that leadership continuity is vital for the levski’s future. Bostandjiev stated that his objective is to maintain the club’s identity and independence while achieving sustainable success both on the pitch and in operational aspects, expressing satisfaction that Sirakov will remain president. A cornerstone of the levski’s future plan is the proposed new Georgi Asparuhov Stadium.
Levski and the architectural and engineering firm IPA have unveiled the concept, estimating a total investment of EUR 120 million. The stadium is designed to accommodate 24,718 seats under Bulgarian Football Union guidelines and 23,032 seats under UEFA standards. Construction is anticipated to commence in spring 2027.
Furthermore, the facility is planned as a multifunctional complex, capable of hosting large-scale events, including concerts for up to 40,000 people, alongside enhanced public park areas. Atanas Bostandjiev is the founder and CEO of Gemcorp Capital, established in 2014, which focuses on emerging markets. His prior professional experience includes serving as CEO of VTB Capital in the UK and as a partner at Goldman Sachs in London, where he co-headed the emerging markets business across Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
