North Macedonia’s President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova congratulated Rumen Radev following his victory in the April 19 parliamentary elections. She expressed wishes for his success and emphasized the significance of adopting a regional approach. The President stated that North Macedonia remains committed to developing “friendly and constructive relations” and promoting understanding regarding the necessity of EU enlargement.
Speaking to reporters after attending a Conference of Presidents and Speakers of Parliaments of the Adriatic & Ionian Initiative in Skopje, Siljanovska-Davkova revealed that she had messaged Radev after the elections and subsequently received a call from him. “I wished him success and said I believe that such strong support is a guarantee of stability,” she told the press, adding that “Bulgarian citizens likely see him as a stabilizing figure for the country and the nation.” She suggested this perception might facilitate his efforts to form a government and implement his platform. “I am looking forward to arranging a meeting,” she concluded.
Earlier, Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski also congratulated Radev on his win, stressing the importance of dialogue and positive neighborly relations. In the context of these developments, commentary within Macedonia has largely centered on whether the election results in Bulgaria could influence Bulgaria’s position concerning the country’s path toward EU membership.
