Bostandjiev Becomes New PFC Levski Sofia Owner

Bulgarian businessman Atanas Bostandjiev has acquired ownership of PFC Levski Sofia, taking over from the outgoing majority shareholder, Nasko Sirakov, as announced on Friday. While Bostandjiev assumes the ownership role, Sirakov will retain the position of club president. Sirakov stated his decision to step down from shareholding after successfully stabilizing the club during a challenging period, emphasizing the necessity of continued leadership for Levski’s future stability.

Bostandjiev stated that his objective is to maintain the club’s identity and independence while achieving sustainable success both on the pitch and in its operational aspects. He expressed satisfaction that Sirakov will continue in his role as president. A cornerstone of Levski’s future strategy is the planned new Georgi Asparuhov Stadium.

Levski and the architectural and engineering firm IPA have unveiled the concept, which requires an estimated investment of EUR 120 million. The proposed stadium will accommodate 24,718 seats according to Bulgarian Football Union requirements and 23,032 under UEFA standards. Construction is slated to commence in the spring of 2027.

The facility is designed as a multifunctional complex, capable of hosting major events, including concerts for up to 40,000 people, alongside enhanced public park areas. Atanas Bostandjiev is the founder and CEO of Gemcorp Capital, an investment firm established in 2014, which focuses on emerging markets. His professional background includes serving as CEO of VTB Capital in the UK and holding a partnership role at Goldman Sachs in London.

Before these roles, he began his career at Merrill Lynch in Frankfurt in 1998.
